II. SUMMARY

The Turkish Red Crescent, which conveys the helping hand of our benefactor community to the four corners of the world, started a campaign of humanitarian aid for Africa.

The Turkish Red Crescent, which was appreciated by the international community, as well as the national community, for the international humanitarian aid activities carried out in the recent years, did not remain insensitive to the Africa that suffers from drought and hunger.

In order to relieve the hunger threat caused by drought and famine that recently took place even on a small scale, the Turkish Red Crescent, which continues aid activities continuously in the continent of Africa depending on the needs, decided to start an aid campaign with the cooperation of daily journal Sabah, Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency and Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency. Our benefactor community extends the hand of aid to the Africa through the campaigns with slogans: “Africa is Hungry, the Turkish Red Crescent is on Route to Relieve” and “Let’s go World! Let’s Ignite the Beacon of Benevolence.” TV spots, TV banner ads, radio spots, posters, billboard, display, banners, internet products were produced and shared with the public.

The Red Crescent initiated Somalia humanitarian aid operation in coordination with relevant organizations responding rapidly to the crisis. TRC team paid a visit to Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan, the President of the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) in Nairobi, Kenya discussed TRC humanitarian interventions in Somalia. TRC team arrived to Mogadishu and signed a MoU with the Transitional Federal Government of Somali Republic with anintention to officially authorize TRC’s presence in the country and clarify operational modalities together with roles and responsibilities of the parties on 11 August 2011.

Additionally, the TRC and SRCS Presidents signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 11 January 2012 in Ankara.

TRC team, composed of 9 expatriates and 46 local staff, is implementing its activities in close cooperation with the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and other Red Cross Red Crescent partners from the very beginning of its humanitarian intervention in the country.
